Countingup

We threw a bit of a shindig just before the Easter bank holiday to celebrate officially moving out of beta, and we had an absolute blast. We took questions from a range of small business owners, accountants and a few journalists as well.

It is brilliant to be able to offer a Countingup account to limited companies as well as sole traders.

It is free to try so you can download Countingup now for iPhone and for Android devices.

“A huge thank you to everyone who was there on the day, and to everyone who has supported us so far!”

For a small team, we have achieved a lot in such a short amount of time. Going from nothing to building a business account that automates accounting – and getting our first customers in just 6 months – is some achievement.

Feedback is the key

Simply put, there is no way we could have achieved what we have so far without the invaluable input of the entrepreneurs, sole traders and small business owners that helped us to refine and shape Countingup into something that people genuinely find useful and helpful.

Providing your customers a chance to tell you what they want is incredibly powerful

We take that input very seriously. Recently, we created a place for you to put down ideas that you want to see in the Countingup app in the near future.

You can vote for the features you find most useful and your votes will affect our product roadmap as a result.

If the last 6 months are anything to go by, the next 6–12 months are going to be absolutely jam-packed. But before we do, let’s take a quick look at how we got here:

Countingup becomes a company!

It all has to start somewhere! Our CEO started this business after leaving Clear Books, which he also founded and ran for 9 years. Talk about experience!

Raising money and getting to work

As reported by TechCrunch, Tim raised some capital so that we could build out the initial product. As is noted in the linked article, there is a major difference between ourselves and other neo-banks — we’ve created a business current account with inbuilt accounting software.

Calling all beta users

Amazingly, our engineering team built the initial product in just 5 months. Working closely with real small businesses in both a private and public beta, we refined the product and changed aspects based on your feedback.

Official launch and limited companies

On 28 March, we invited those early beta users and many others to come and join us in launching our official product — including the first accounts for limited companies. Countingup is officially out in the wild!

We have done a huge amount in 2018 so far, but we feel like we are only getting started. We have some big plans in store and we are really looking forward to rest of the year.
